Punta Gorda Isles
In 1958 two ex-CIA agents Al Johns and Bud Cole started Punta Gorda Isles Corporation with 550 acres. Today it is a premiere deed restricted community which serves to keep the community well groomed. Single family homes are the majority of residences in this area with condominiums and villas also available. The majority of the area is waterfront with varying access to Charlotte harbor and Peace River. Whether you enjoy sailboats or motorboats this community is a favorite of all boaters. It is also home to the
Punta Gorda Isles Yacht Club, numerous parks,
St. Andrews South Country Club,
Punta Gorda Civic Association, and it is a common sight to see the residents walking, biking on the
Punta Gorda Pathways while enjoying their surroundings.
The Historic Districts
Punta Gorda has three identified
Historic Districts: Bethel – St. Mark Historic District, Downtown Historic District, and The National Register District.
Punta Gorda has a History Park located on Shreve street lined with historically significant homes that have been donated and rehabilitated. Within these historic districts you will find housing over fifty years old alongside new and modern homes, built with the old Florida feel. These areas have become quite popular due to their walking proximity to downtown, parks and waterfront. Also popular is mixed use buildings in these areas with office or retail on ground level with housing on the second floor.
Burnt Store Isles
Developed by The Punta Gorda Isles Corporation beginning in December of 1969. As of April 2013 this deed restricted community has 900 homes, 200 condos and 300 vacant residential lots with a private country
club – Twin Isles Country Club. There is a Burnt Store Isles Home Owners Association. Within this community there are single family homes, villas and condos with either waterfront, greenbelt or golf course frontage.
